I am Brian Link from RWNB Media,
and I'm working towards making an easy guide to understand the many altcoins as the cryptocurrency market grows.

MY CRYPTO CURRENCY JOURNEY SO FAR
I had heard a little about bitcoin prior to 2017 but didn't know too much about it, while what I heard sounded cool it didn't seem like there was much for me to do and no reason to do anything but wait for it to be useful.
In November a friend sent me a news story about bitcoin which had went above $10,000 per coin for the first time and he thought it was the bee's knees, and I thought it was another tulip bubble which in the early 1600s where Dutch people used these new to Europe plants as a medium of exchange and the prices quickly got out of control and later collapsed. I made fun of my friend who thought that bitcoin was great and would be even greater in the future. So I did the research and discovered that blockchain the underlying technology alone was worth a look and that the number of people and companies investing in bitcoin and blockchain infrastructure was growing, then combined with the fact that while the bugs are still being worked out by early investors it is a generally safe and reliable system, and with some of the newer projects promises to be even more so in the future.
I know it is still a wild west out there, but with more than 1,000 altcoins out there and more in development there is a space to make money.
So I looked at places to buy and trade coins and found it hard to understand and often limitations such as coinbase didn't except prepaid credit cards and another bank card I had would not work on coinbase because of the bank among other problems was discouraging.
Through my friend I was able to buy $80 worth of Litecoin which was then turned into Bitcoin then used to buy 4 coins I thought had potential which were RDD, XDN, XVG, and 2GIVE, and was able to turn that into $300 in just over a month. I discovered then that transferring smaller amounts of coin would be expensive so I cashed out my holdings so I could move from Bittrex to Cryptopia which has more of the smaller coins that I believe have room to grow and now I hold 12 coins plus a reserve of BTC for other purchases I hope to make.
BELOW I WILL LIST WHAT I BOUGHT AND WHY!
So by no means am I an expert, but I have found a groove where I think I can make some money and maybe help others sort through it all. Mostly I plan to share videos from other people along with links to places I find information, because I don't want to be your expert or guru, I just hope to share some of my experiences so you will consider playing the crypto game too.
Here is where I would start if I were you, go to the bottom of this page and look at my original list of coins that I think could grow based on name alone, the click the links to coinmarketcap.com to do your own research on coins.
I believe the top 50 coins are likely the safest bets over all, but coins from 50 to 500 in marketcap are where most of the growth will come from, but look at how many coin units are available and will be available in each coin brand because the more units available the lower the price will be, due to supply and demand.
Look at the names of the coins and their websites link from coinmarketcap.com and see what outside information you can get as well and understand that this is still a gamble and you could loose your money.

I went PIGGY
on coins
I bought 10,000 PIGGY coins @ 47 cents each, one it's a gamble on the future hoping for upside but I also believe in the concept. Crypto for kids with a focus on education is a good idea.
Not sure how big these guys are and if they can do what they plan but I will wait and see, and maybe promoted it via Wisecracking Family

The History and Future of BitCoin and other cryptocurrencies

Before I say a word about what this new digital currency is, I must first address value. When you think of conventional money issued by government it is almost always fiat which means it's not backed by anything such as gold or silver, the dollars in your wallet have no fixed value except the trust people give it.
If you worry about inflation you need to hedge your money against something or if you save a dollar when you're 20 for your retirement at 80 it might be worth only a dime or even a penny, so you need to worry long term, however in the short term you generally don't.
For example if it takes an hour to cut the grass at your house and your grandpa cut it as a young man in 1940 and was paid $1 and he could then go to the local burger shop and get 10 hamburgers so it was worth it to him, now if 80 years later you own the house and pay your daughter $10 and she can buy 10 hamburgers then she's happy.
Now if your grandpa saved his dollar to buy hamburgers in his old age he would have lost 9 of his 10 possible hamburgers and without help he would starve.
In 2009 bitcoin started by a mostly anonymous people and largely continues to be a primarily anonymous system at it's root core. The idea was to replace the current system with a new digital system that was safe and private, a system that would allow people to buy and sell without government or big business getting in the way and a low cost payment method that would retain it's value and in fact gain value by limiting the amount of currency and making counterfeit impossible using a mathematical formula and a public record.
I don't pretend to know everything about how and why bitcoin and other altcoins work but I have learned enough to know that the technology behind it and all of the tools that are being developed to use bitcoin not only for payments but as a store of value, and the tech allows for other applications and uses that I could explain in another article.

While these 20 plus coin names are things I feel on a gut level could grow based on price and room for growth, I have found it hard to find good independent news on most of the coins, I find that YouTube videos and coin websites have at least given me enough to start but it's mostly hopes and opinions for now so use caution.
Also ReddIt.com has a blog for every coin and market out there but again it's opinions.

HISTORY AND FUTURE STORY CONTINUED FROM LEFT COLUMN
The way it has been in the last 8 years is that bitcoin once it took 20,000 coins to buy one pizza assuming a pizza costs $10 that means that 1,000 coins was worth 50 cents, now today in December of 2017 the price of one bitcoin is just under $20,000 so that means if 8 years ago you went 1 night without ordering a pizza and saved that money in bitcoin you could now buy 2,000 pizzas. Now that will not likely be the case in the next 8 years from now because the cost will likely began to stabilize and one coin might be worth 3,000 pizzas.
Now there is over 1,000 different coins that compete with bitcoin which offers some promise of how it's better or that focuses on a different part of the market. The cost of each brand of coin can range from less than a cent each up to $1,000 or more each with most around the $10-50 range. The entire market of bitcoins and altcoins is around $600 billion invested so far with much of the investments and use in Asia.
When it comes to usability the problem of a fluctuating price and expensive tokens makes the system harder to adopt for mainstream users, if you go to the coffee shop and your $5 USD coffee is at is 30,000 Satoshis (which 0.00030000 in bitcoin) then the next day is 40,000 then 3 days later it's back at 20,000 Satoshi you can not plan on that as a customer or retailer so there needs to be a constant at some point, now with the thousands of competing brands of altcoins, it is possible to use one of those as daily exchange while other coins could be for other uses or as a store of value.
Now one problem you will find with altcoins is different exchanges have different coins, most all except and trade with Bitcoin, Ether, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin and the most common coins but it can be hit or miss with some coins and exchanges, and even getting on an exchange can be complicated because now you need IDs and proof of who you are, plus some exchanges only allow coin to coin trade so you need to find a place that will except USD Fiat and even then some banks and credit cards will not work on all platforms.
So with all this I have to warn you that if you don't have money to loose and are not tech savvy there is risk and you should not do it, but if you are willing to learn are OK with the possibility of loosing all or part of what you invest. And you understand that while making big money on betting on coins or "stocks" that could increase in value, you must realize that this is a new system, and many of the coins outside of the top 10 or so there is very little information on them except for what their own websites say and the opinions of speculators.
For example one coin called "SAFEX" short for "SafeExchange" was anything but that because it was delisted by all of the exchanges, over what I believe was no more than a temper tantrum now if you hold that coin it has no value whatsoever unless or until it is relisted.
Again I don't claim to know all about Bitcoin or the Cryptocurrency system, but I have learned enough to believe it is here for the long term no matter what the ups and downs are or what coins remain strong in the future but I have learned some and I will now give you some opinions based on my general business knowledge and looking at the history of other businesses.
Today we have over 1,000 coins on the market with even more in the process of being released through ICOs which are Initial Coin Offerings similar to a new stock going public in an IPO or Initial Public Offering of stock on the stock market. I believe in the long run only a small percentage of them will last and not necessarily those that are on top now.
If you look at cable TV for instance there is just over 300 channels available and maybe 20 are the ones that get the most viewers and ad dollars, the others are generally owned as the third and forth channels of the major companies that own the top 20. For over 10 years no truly new channels have been launched because they change the format of an under preforming channel they already own, same is true with radio if you turn on 109.8 and listen to country then one day you find it's playing heavy metal instead or visa versa, it is because there is a limit to how many of anything can be successful on a large scale.
Almost every industry has a story of consolidation where there are many small companies that over time become 3 or 4 big companies. I believe this will be true in time with Altcoins as well.
When I started studying them I looked for names that I thought would catch on or ones that I thought had something that made them different and hopefully better, now I also looked a what coins were on my exchange and what I could get for pennies with hopes of future growth.
I had limited money and my exchange would only process orders of 50,000 Satoshi or higher so I picked up these coins.

I don't know as much about XVG but I heard enough rumor about it's potential and it was one of cheaper top 20 so I got it as a hedge.
650 2GIVE (2GIVE)

Again not too many details on this coin but I like the name.
I also hold small amounts of Bitcoin and Litecoin both as a hedge and as a means of exchange.
So far most of my coins have went up in value and I am confident that they will all rise to above $1 in the future or more and I will take some profits at that point.
Now after following several coins, reading up and watching videos I have come to the conclusion that the coins that last must have an easy to remember name and serve a market need or they will either go away or be extremely small players. At some point I think mergers of some sort will happen.
I also believe that existing or future coins must find a way to stabilize prices. I thought about what I would do if I could and created 3 possibles coins that could work together in some fashion.
FOODcoin DRINKcoin and THANX
I would have went to a company like YUM that owns Taco Bell, KFC and Pizza Hut and made a deal with them to allow the coins to be used to buy meals there and establish a value. I would have used a cell phone to send the money to the growing list of restaurants at checkout.
If the FOOD price could be kept around $7-8 with 1 billion coins available (3 meals a day for every one in the US), then the DRINK price could be kept at $1-2 or about 25% with 5 billion coins in circulation and a final coin called THANX which could be a tip coin at about 5% with around 20 billion coins the 3 could be used to offset each other and give some real world value.
Now I need to say that I later learned a real FOODcoin is in the works and will be ICO'd soon now I don't know how they plan to do things compare to my fantasy scenario, but they seem to be focused more on a farm to table worldwide model but they do agree in a fixed value system so I will invest in it at some point when it is available for US people to buy in.
With all this said I think the cryptocurrency space will grow and it is a good way to grow income and free us from the current banking system it is worth a look and I encourage all of you to look more into it and maybe even invest.

NEO is a coin you should look into because it A) pays dividends called GAS token (or coin)
XMR it is another big currency that could grow bigger!! AND IS A PRIVACY COIN

In my opinion MaidSAFEcoin
is the best bet for a long term growth move. This project is mostly about data storage and shared network services, additionally it is a privacy coin in the way it works, I am trying to look at other coins as well, but at 60 cents after today's marketwide flash crash the price was over $1 USD I currently own 8 and will look into more!!

So with an idea of possible use in mind now the question is what is each unit worth?
a coin brand with a marketcap of $1B and has 1B units (coins)
that offers that means each coin is $1
now if that same brand offers only 1 million coins with the same marketcap of $1B means
each coin is worth $1,000
now why would someone buy any coin anywhere if it has no real world value or use
I believe only 200 coins will ever be viable but which ones is yet to be seen...
but if the 2026 forecast calls for $1T MC divide that equally among 200 coin brands thats 50B market cap each.
obviously then top 20 coins will likely take half of possible MC so coins under 21 will be max at 25B
So if your favorite coin offers...
10B units thats $2.50 each
1B units thats $25 each
100M units thats $250 each
THIS IS JUST AN EDUCATED GUESS

Earlier I did an article on GDP of US and EU which is around $40 Trillion in USD, the world's GDP is $75 Trillion, so if 50% of the worlds population uses #bitcoin and #altcoin for 50% of all transactions in the future that would make total possible market cap of #cryptocurrencies about $18 Trillion and as of today 500 Billion with maybe 2-3% of people using crypto or even holding it, and while growth seems to be coming...
If the altcoin system grows, you MIGHT BE holding on to something that will increase in value as much as 36 times, but that is a very hopeful long term view. If the current use is about 3% of total world population than $500 Billion is a fair market cap but keep in mind these three things...
1) If governments and or banks try to stop bitcoin and other coins in either the US or EU or worse both, then as much as 50% of the possible market is gone overnight.
2) If BTC and the other top 5 coins hold 400 out of 500 Billion of the market as they do today, that means the other 1300 plus coins and 100s of ICOs out there combined hold about 20% of the market if all was equal that would give each coin brand around 50,000,000 in market cap so if a certain brand has 1,000,000 units available that is $50 per coin unit if they have 1,000,000,000 coin units that's 5 cents each so buy accordingly. And realize this is likely a race to the top and many coins will not last.
3) because this is a gamble you should only invest 1% of your annual income, and only if you can afford to loose it all.
